Srinagar: Restrictions continued across parts of Kashmir for a second straight day on Tuesday after widespread demonstrations erupted over the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
Authorities maintained strict precautionary measures following large gatherings across several districts of the valley. Educational institutions remained closed for two days, and mobile internet speeds were reduced as part of efforts to contain the situation.
Officials said security protocols were further strengthened after some protests reportedly turned confrontational. As a preventive step, the movement of security force convoys was suspended across the region on Tuesday. In addition, no road-opening operations—typically conducted to secure highways for convoy passage—were carried out during the day to minimize the risk of escalation.
Senior officials indicated that the measures were aimed at maintaining public order and preventing clashes. Law enforcement personnel were deployed in sensitive areas, while surveillance was heightened to monitor developments.
While normal life was partially disrupted in some areas, authorities urged residents to remain calm and avoid gatherings that could lead to unrest. The administration is closely tracking the situation and is expected to review the restrictions depending on how conditions evolve in the coming days.
