Chandigarh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a day-long visit to Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab on Friday, where he will launch a series of infrastructure, healthcare, railway and highway projects collectively valued at more than Rs 24,000 crore, with a major emphasis on clean transportation, regional connectivity and public services.

The Prime Minister’s first stop will be Jind, Haryana, where he will flag off India’s first hydrogen-powered passenger train operating between Jind and Sonipat. Developed using indigenous technology, the train represents India’s entry into the select group of nations operating hydrogen-powered rail services and is expected to promote environmentally sustainable mobility.

During his stay in Haryana, the Prime Minister will also dedicate and lay the foundation stone for several National Highway projects aimed at improving road connectivity across northern India. Key projects include sections of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, the Ambala-Kala Amb highway, the Jind-Gohana Greenfield corridor, and the proposed Hansi-Barwala highway upgrade. The projects are expected to reduce travel time, strengthen logistics networks and improve connectivity to industrial and religious destinations.

Apart from transport infrastructure, the Prime Minister will inaugurate new medical institutions, including government medical colleges at Bhiwani and Narnaul, which are expected to expand healthcare facilities and increase opportunities for medical education in the state. He will also lay the foundation stone for a Sikh Museum at Kurukshetra showcasing Sikh history and heritage.

From Haryana, the Prime Minister will travel to Chandigarh, where he will inaugurate advanced healthcare facilities at PGIMER, including specialised centres dedicated to maternal, child and neurological care. He will also lay the foundation stone for a new critical care block under the Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission.

The Chandigarh programme also includes the inauguration and foundation laying of educational infrastructure projects at Punjab Engineering College and Government College, along with key road projects designed to ease traffic movement and strengthen regional connectivity.

In the final leg of his tour, Prime Minister Modi will reach Jalandhar, where he will launch multiple railway and highway projects. A major highlight will be the inauguration of 75 redeveloped railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, including Jalandhar Cantonment, aimed at modernising passenger amenities while preserving local architectural heritage.

He is also scheduled to inaugurate the Daulatpur Chowk-Kartoli rail line, flag off new train services connecting Kartoli to Ambala and Amritsar to Varanasi, and dedicate another section of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway to the nation.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the Southern Ludhiana Bypass, a project expected to improve connectivity between Ludhiana, Bathinda and other industrial hubs while reducing congestion on existing routes.

The visit underscores the Centre’s continued focus on expanding transport infrastructure, promoting clean energy technologies, strengthening healthcare services and improving regional connectivity across northern India.
