Chandigarh: Residents of Punjab and Chandigarh can expect continued monsoon activity over the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting intermittent rainfall across the region until August 5. Several districts are likely to receive moderate to heavy showers, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.
According to the latest forecast, the wet spell is expected to persist through the first week of August before gradually weakening. Weather officials have indicated that rainfall intensity may decline from August 6, with only isolated light showers anticipated thereafter.
Bathinda Remains the Hottest in Punjab
Despite the ongoing monsoon, Bathinda recorded the highest daytime temperature in the state at 37.1 degrees Celsius. The state’s average maximum temperature increased marginally by 0.1 degree Celsius during the past 24 hours, while Ludhiana reported the lowest minimum temperature at 24 degrees Celsius.
Warm and Humid Conditions in Chandigarh
Chandigarh experienced a maximum temperature of 33.8 degrees Celsius, around one degree above normal, while the minimum settled at 26 degrees Celsius, slightly below the seasonal average. Humidity levels ranged between 57 and 79 per cent, making conditions warm and humid despite intermittent cloud cover.
The IMD expects daytime temperatures in Chandigarh to remain between 33°C and 34°C, with minimum temperatures likely to stay in the 23°C to 24°C range over the next five days.
Rainfall Deficit Continues
Meteorological data shows that Chandigarh has received 337.2 mm of rainfall since June 1, which is approximately 21.3 per cent below the seasonal average. However, the department believes the expected rainfall over the coming days could help improve the overall monsoon figures.
Public Advisory Issued
The weather department has advised residents to remain alert during thunderstorms and avoid open fields, water bodies and isolated trees when lightning activity is reported. Authorities have also cautioned that heavy showers may lead to temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas and affect traffic movement.
People have been urged to plan their travel according to weather conditions, stay updated with official forecasts and follow safety instructions issued by local administrations as the active monsoon spell continues across the region.
