Pune: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has launched an investigation into an alleged network connected to Pakistan-based gangster Shahzad Bhatti, carrying out searches at multiple locations in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
During the operation, several individuals were detained for questioning as part of the probe into suspected links with Bhatti and his associates. Officials said the investigation is focused on identifying the extent of the network and examining possible activities carried out through digital platforms.
According to the ATS, Bhatti’s group allegedly used social media and messaging applications, including Facebook, Instagram, Telegram and WhatsApp, to reach out to young people and attempt to influence them.
The agency is currently analysing digital communications, contacts and other available evidence to determine the nature of the alleged connections and the role of those being questioned.
Officials said the operation is part of ongoing efforts to track and disrupt networks that may exploit online platforms for recruitment, communication or other unlawful activities.
The Maharashtra ATS has not disclosed further details about the detained individuals or the specific locations targeted during the searches, stating that the investigation remains underway.
Authorities said further action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing inquiry.
