Kota: A fresh maternal death at a government hospital in Rajasthan’s Kota has intensified concerns over post-delivery complications after a 22-year-old woman died following health issues that developed after a cesarean section. Two more women are currently undergoing treatment after suffering serious kidney-related complications.
The deceased, identified as Priya Mahawar from Bundi district’s Sunwasa village, was admitted to the government-run J.K. Lon Hospital after experiencing labour pain. Doctors carried out an emergency C-section to save her child, who is reported to be healthy and stable.
Hospital authorities stated that Priya’s condition deteriorated after the surgery due to severe cardiac complications. According to officials, she developed Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia (PSVT), causing her heart rate to rise dangerously beyond 200 beats per minute. Despite intensive efforts by medical staff, she could not be revived.
J.K. Lon Hospital administration rejected allegations that her death was linked to any post-surgical infection, maintaining that heart-related complications were the primary cause.
Meanwhile, two other women identified as Aarti and Pinky were shifted to the Nephrology Ward of New Medical College Hospital after developing urinary and kidney complications following cesarean deliveries. Doctors said both patients are under close observation and are receiving specialised treatment.
The recent incidents have raised fresh questions about unexplained medical complications surfacing in Kota’s government healthcare institutions. Medical experts have admitted that the pattern requires detailed investigation to determine the exact cause.
Officials also referred to a similar case reported earlier this year in Udaipur, suggesting that deeper analysis and timely preventive measures may have helped avoid repeated episodes.
Adding to concerns, two women had earlier developed infections in the gynecology ward and were shifted to a private hospital for advanced care. Additionally, three out of four women who faced complications after C-section procedures earlier this week at New Medical College Hospital remain in critical condition.
Health authorities are closely monitoring the situation as concerns grow over maternal healthcare safety standards in the region.
