Arunachal Pradesh: Four people have lost their lives and five Army personnel remain unaccounted for following two separate rain-related incidents in Arunachal Pradesh, officials said on Saturday.
The incidents took place on Friday evening in Upper Subansiri and Dibang Valley districts, where heavy rainfall triggered a landslide and a flash flood, respectively.
In Upper Subansiri, a landslide struck the Keojaring-Byaching road construction site, burying several people beneath the debris. Four victims were identified as Tadu Baki, Taji Rai, Markosh Basumatari and Babul Ali.
Officials said the body of Babul Ali has been recovered so far. Search and recovery efforts are continuing at the site as authorities work to determine whether more people remain trapped under the rubble.
Personnel from Nacho Police Station have been involved in the operation, while Fire and Emergency Services teams are being mobilised from Daporijo. A State Disaster Response Force team is also expected to join the search.
Five Army personnel missing after flash flood
A separate incident occurred in Dibang Valley, where a sudden surge of water swept through the Pasu Pani Army Camp following intense rainfall.
Two shelters belonging to the 5th Grenadier were washed away by the flash flood. Seven Army personnel were caught in the incident, officials said. Two were rescued, while five others remain missing.
The missing personnel have been identified as Havaldar Upendar and soldiers Kundan, Vinod, Aditya and Samunda.
Two search and rescue teams from the 5th Grenadier have been deployed to locate the missing personnel.
Additional support has been mobilised from across the region. Teams from the 58th Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, the 62 Road Construction Company of the General Reserve Engineer Force, Arunachal Pradesh Police and local volunteers have joined the search efforts.
An SDRF team from Pasighat is also travelling towards Anini to assist with the operation.
Authorities are continuing rescue and recovery work at both locations as the region deals with the impact of heavy rainfall and flash flooding. The incidents have highlighted the risks faced by both civilians and personnel working in remote and difficult terrain during periods of intense weather.
