Jalandhar: Punjab Police have claimed a major breakthrough in their investigation into cross-border terror networks after Counter Intelligence, Jalandhar, working with SBS Nagar Police, arrested an alleged operative linked to a foreign-controlled Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) module.

According to the police, an 86-P hand grenade was recovered during the joint operation, which they said helped prevent a planned attack.

Preliminary questioning of the arrested suspect indicated that the grenade had allegedly been obtained from a DLB near Adampur in Jalandhar. Police said the procurement was carried out on instructions allegedly received from handlers operating from outside India.

Authorities have registered a case at Sadar Nawanshahr police station in SBS Nagar under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Explosive Substances Act.

Investigators are now examining the wider network allegedly associated with the arrested suspect. The probe is expected to focus on identifying the foreign-based handlers, possible local facilitators and the links through which weapons or other material may have been arranged.

The police are also working to establish the alleged forward and backward connections of the module as part of efforts to determine the extent of its operations.

Officials described the operation as part of the state’s broader campaign against terrorism and organised crime. Punjab Police said they remain focused on identifying and dismantling networks involved in activities that threaten public safety.

Further details are expected as investigators question the arrested accused and trace the alleged network and its links.

The allegations contained in the police account will be subject to further investigation and legal proceedings.
