Ranchi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated a probe into alleged irregularities in examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), with officials confirming that the agency has registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR).
The development marks the entry of the federal financial investigation agency into the controversy surrounding the alleged examination irregularities.
An ECIR is an internal document used by the ED to formally record information relating to a suspected offence that may involve proceeds of crime and serves as the basis for the agency’s investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), where applicable.
The move comes amid an ongoing controversy over alleged irregularities linked to JPSC examinations. The issue has also triggered protests by students in Jharkhand, who have been demanding action over their allegations.
Officials said the ECIR has been registered in connection with the alleged irregularities, but further details about the scope of the investigation and the persons or entities under scrutiny were not immediately available.
The ED’s action could pave the way for the agency to examine financial transactions and other records if they are found to be connected to any suspected proceeds of crime.
