Rohtak: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was released from the Sunaria district jail in Haryana’s Rohtak on Tuesday morning after being granted a 30-day parole, marking yet another temporary release during his ongoing prison sentence.
Ram Rahim walked out of the high-security jail premises at around 6:35 am under heavy police deployment and was escorted in a sports utility vehicle as security personnel monitored the movement closely.
The latest parole is the 16th temporary release granted to the self-styled godman since his conviction in August 2017, when a special CBI court in Panchkula sentenced him to 20 years of imprisonment for the rape of two women followers.
His repeated paroles and furloughs over the years have frequently drawn public and political attention, with opposition leaders and rights groups often questioning the timing and frequency of such relief.
Earlier this year, Ram Rahim was also granted a 40-day parole in January, during which he stayed at the Dera’s Uttar Pradesh-based ashram and remained active through online interactions with followers.
The Dera chief continues to command a significant support base, particularly in parts of Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan, where his temporary releases often trigger large-scale attention among followers.
Authorities maintained strict security arrangements around the prison and along the designated travel route to prevent any law-and-order issues following his release.
Ram Rahim remains incarcerated in connection with multiple criminal convictions, including the rape case verdict delivered in 2017. Despite his imprisonment, he has periodically been granted parole and furlough under applicable prison rules.
