NEW DELHI: Fresh CCTV footage obtained during the probe into last week’s deadly Red Fort blast shows the Hyundai i20 involved in the explosion parked inside Al Falah University, Haryana, a day prior to the attack, officials said. The blast, which shook the historic Red Fort area, claimed 13 lives and injured several others amid heavy evening traffic.
The surveillance footage indicates the vehicle, allegedly linked to prime accused Dr Umar Nabi, entered the university campus through the main gate on October 29 and remained stationary for several hours. It was later recorded leaving the campus at 2:41 PM on October 30, just hours before the attack.
Investigators said additional CCTV clips tracked Dr Umar moving across Delhi on the day of the blast. Footage from Sunehri Masjid parking lot near the Red Fort shows him arriving at 3:19 PM and leaving at 6:28 PM — approximately 24 minutes before the explosion occurred. Earlier clips also captured him walking along a narrow lane near a mosque shortly before the incident, giving authorities a clearer timeline of his movements.
The blast investigation is linked to a ‘white-collar terror module’ uncovered in Faridabad, Haryana, which led to the seizure of 2,900 kg of explosives and the arrest of three doctors. Authorities revealed that the suspects had collectively raised over Rs 26 lakh to procure materials for the attack, handing the money to Dr Umar for operational use.
Using these funds, the group allegedly purchased around 26 quintals of NPK fertiliser from suppliers in Gurugram, Nuh, and nearby towns, which investigators believe were intended for constructing the explosives. The four accused — Dr Muzammil Ganaie, Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather, Dr Shaheen Sayeed, and Dr Umar Nabi — are now under rigorous questioning as authorities probe a possible wider terror conspiracy.
Security agencies are reviewing the CCTV evidence and financial trails to determine the full scale of planning behind the Red Fort blast and whether additional accomplices were involved in the operation.
