Faridabad: A shocking case from Faridabad’s Adarsh Nagar police station area has created a stir after police seized a woman’s body from a funeral pyre before cremation, suspecting foul play. The woman had reportedly died by suicide, but her family alleged harassment by her in-laws.
According to police, the deceased, identified as Gunjan, allegedly hanged herself in her room early Wednesday morning. Her husband, Deepak, was preparing for a quiet cremation without informing authorities. Acting on a tip-off, police reached the cremation ground on time and took possession of the body before it was lit. The body was then sent to the Civil Hospital for postmortem.
Gunjan had married Deepak on March 8, 2022, in Bihar. Six months ago, she delivered a baby at her maternal home. Her relatives alleged that her in-laws mentally and physically harassed her and did not allow her to meet or talk to her family. Injury marks were also reportedly found on her body.
The woman’s father and relatives accused the in-laws of continuous torture and claimed that her death was not a simple case of suicide. They demanded a thorough probe.
Police have detained Deepak for questioning and assured that all possible angles are being investigated, including both suicide and murder. The postmortem report is awaited, which will determine the cause of death.
