Dausa: A devastating road accident on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Rajasthan’s Dausa district claimed seven lives and left 22 others injured after a sleeper bus collided with a trailer before bursting into flames in the early hours of Wednesday.
The accident occurred at around 2:30 am when the private bus, carrying passengers from Rishikesh to Indore, was travelling along the expressway. According to preliminary information, the speeding bus rammed into a trailer moving ahead, triggering a massive fire that engulfed both vehicles within minutes.
The impact of the collision was so severe that several passengers occupying the upper sleeper berths were thrown from their seats. As flames spread rapidly through the bus, panic gripped those onboard, with passengers desperately trying to escape while others cried out for help.
Rescue teams, local residents and emergency responders rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control, while the injured were pulled from the wreckage and shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Officials said five victims succumbed to severe burn injuries after being trapped inside the bus, while two others died due to critical head injuries sustained during the collision. Several of the injured are reported to be in serious condition and remain under medical supervision.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the crash. Preliminary findings suggest that high speed may have contributed to the accident, although officials are also examining other possible factors, including the condition of the vehicles and the sequence of events before the collision.
The tragic incident once again highlights concerns over road safety and the risks associated with high-speed travel on national highways and expressways, particularly during overnight journeys. Police have begun recording statements from survivors and witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation.
