Bankipur:In a significant political turn of events in Bihar, Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor has won the Bankipur assembly bye-election, defeating Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha by a decisive margin of 18,953 votes. Following final vote counting at AN College in Patna on Monday, official figures confirmed that Kishor secured 63,203 votes compared to Sinha’s 44,250 votes. Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate Rekha Kumari finished a distant third in the triangular contest, securing 14,085 votes.
The victory marks the first electoral success for the Jan Suraaj Party and serves as Prashant Kishor’s debut win as an elected legislator. The Bankipur assembly seat had long been considered a stronghold for the BJP, which had retained the constituency continuously since 1995. The bye-election was necessitated earlier this year after senior leader Nitin Nabin vacated the seat following his election to the Rajya Sabha.
Speaking after the final declaration of results, Kishor pledged to address public infrastructure, education, and development priorities across the constituency. Meanwhile, state BJP leadership formally acknowledged the mandate, stating that the party respects the public verdict and intends to conduct an internal review of the results.
