New Delhi: The scheduled march to Parliament will go ahead as planned despite the forced relocation of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk to Safdarjung Hospital by the Delhi Police. Speaking outside the medical facility, Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali J Angmo, confirmed that the demonstration remains active and the activist is continuing his hunger strike. She stated that the protest has evolved past the recent competitive exam paper leak controversies, serving as a larger campaign to highlight the structural collapse of the current education system.
Angmo raised concerns over the sudden hospitalization, clarifying that the Delhi High Court had only mandated regular health checkups rather than forced admission. The family has refused the administration of hospital fluids or medications until they can independently verify the medical reports through an external laboratory, noting that Wangchuk is maintaining his fast strictly on salt water. Meanwhile, hospital officials confirmed that while the activist is experiencing weakness and mild dehydration from the prolonged fast, his vital parameters remain stable under continuous observation.
The ongoing protest, which has drawn participation from several student bodies and political groups at Jantar Mantar, was initiated to demand strict accountability and ministerial resignations over nationwide examination irregularities. Despite the police intervention, organizers have reiterated their commitment to the upcoming demonstration, stating that the movement to demand systemic educational reforms will persist.
