KYIV — An Indian citizen was among at least 12 people killed following a barrage of overnight Russian drone and ballistic missile attacks targeting multiple cities and civilian infrastructure across Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed on Tuesday. The intense aerial bombardment damaged residential buildings, transport hubs, and energy facilities, leaving dozens wounded and cutting power to thousands of households.
According to Ukrainian officials, the strikes caused widespread destruction in Kyiv and surrounding areas, where nearly 350 emergency responders were deployed in search and recovery operations. In the capital, an attack on a railway depot claimed the lives of seven individuals, while another strike in the nearby city of Boryspil damaged a five-storey residential complex and commercial properties, killing four people and injuring 13 others. Guided aerial bombs and drones also struck the southern port region of Odesa, disrupting electricity grids and damaging key export infrastructure, including a border crossing with Romania.
Expressing condolences to the families of the victims, President Zelenskyy condemned the assault, stating that Russian forces deployed high-speed jet-powered drones and ballistic missiles deliberately aimed at causing maximum civilian harm. He reiterated an urgent appeal to international allies for enhanced air defence systems, stressing that the protection of civilian lives relies heavily on the timely delivery of anti-ballistic and interceptor capabilities.
