Amravati: More than 100 students from three tribal residential schools in Maharashtra’s Amravati district were hospitalised after falling ill in a suspected case of food poisoning, officials said on Monday.

According to officials, the students began experiencing vomiting and other symptoms after consuming meals served at their respective residential schools.

A police complaint has been filed against the operator of the central kitchen responsible for supplying food to the schools, confirmed Siddarth Shukla, Tribal Development Project Officer, Dharni.

The first incident was reported on Saturday, when 69 students were admitted to a government hospital in Dharni after complaining of illness. On Sunday, another 70 students from government residential schools in Bijudhavdi and Savlikheda villages in Dharni tehsil developed similar symptoms and were also shifted to hospital for treatment.

Health officials said most of the affected students have responded well to treatment and have since been discharged. However, 32 students remain under medical observation, although their condition is reported to be stable.

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of the suspected food poisoning. The police complaint against the central kitchen operator forms part of the ongoing probe.

Further action will depend on the findings of the investigation and examination of the food samples.
