Basti: A 50-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his daughter and her partner after he confronted them over their romantic relationship in eastern Uttar Pradesh, police confirmed on Sunday. The fatal altercation took place on Friday in Ramwapur Tiwari village, situated within the Dubaulia police station limits in Basti district.
According to the police complaint filed by the victim’s brother, Kashiram, the deceased, identified as Krishna, had persistently opposed his daughter’s relationship and was actively arranging her marriage elsewhere. Tensions escalated when Krishna spotted the couple together near a local canal and attempted to confront them, reportedly using a stick to strike at them in anger.
The confrontation turned violent when the duo overpowered Krishna, seized the weapon, and repeatedly assaulted him using a sickle fitted to the stick. Leaving him critically wounded and unconscious at the scene, the two returned to their respective homes. Family members launched a search later that night after Krishna failed to return, discovering him severely injured near the canal.
Superintendent of Police (Basti) Yashveer Singh stated that preliminary findings confirm the homicide was triggered by familial opposition to the romantic liaison. Law enforcement authorities registered a First Information Report under relevant sections of the law and took both the victim’s daughter and her partner into custody.
