RANCHI — A man threw ink at All India Students’ Association (AISA) national president Neha Bora during a protest march towards the Jharkhand Assembly near Birsa Chowk on Friday. The demonstration, organized jointly by Left-leaning student groups including AISA and the All India Students’ Federation (AISF), was held to highlight alleged irregularities, corruption, and paper leaks in state recruitment examinations, specifically the JPSC Civil Services and JSSC Combined Graduate Level tests.
The suspect, identified by law enforcement as Amarnath Pandey, was apprehended by protesters at the scene and subsequently taken into police custody at Dhurwa police station for interrogation. Speaking to media personnel while being escorted away, Pandey admitted to the act, accusing Bora of being an “anti-national” and criticizing her past political statements and reported support for activist Umar Khalid. Hatia Deputy Superintendent of Police Neeraj Kumar confirmed the detention, noting that official legal proceedings would follow the submission of a formal complaint.
Reacting to the incident, Bora stated that attempts at physical intimidation or throwing ink would not deter the ongoing student movement. Recalling prior demonstrations at Jantar Mantar in Delhi where student activists faced tear gas and police action, she emphasized that the student community remains firm in demanding transparent examination processes and a revised schedule for the cancelled JPSC and JSSC CGL tests. The ongoing stir in Ranchi, led under the banner of the JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch, has entered its 14th day with several student representatives observing an indefinite hunger strike.
