Kota: A special court in Kota, Rajasthan, has delivered a landmark judgment by sentencing 12 members of a single family to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of a young man. The conflict, which tragically escalated over a minor dispute involving a goat, resulted in the death of Ishtiaq Hussain, the son of a retired Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI). Alongside the life sentences, the court imposed a fine of ₹13,000 on each of the convicts, marking one of the largest collective sentencings in the district’s legal history.

The incident dates back to August 31, 2018, in the Bombay Yojana area under the Udhyog Nagar police station limits. According to the case details provided by Advocate Riaz Ahmed, the dispute began when the victim’s uncle, Abdul Aziz alias Pappu, had an argument with their neighbour, Ramzani, over a goat. When several individuals went to Ramzani’s house to mediate and resolve the matter peacefully, they were met with a violent ambush. Ramzani and his family members allegedly attacked the group with knives, sticks, and other sharp-edged weapons, leading to Ishtiaq Hussain’s fatal injuries.

The 12 individuals convicted include the primary accused, Ramzani, his wife Farzana, and their two sons, Mushtaq and Mukhtar. Other relatives and associates identified as Saddam Khan, Shahrukh, Mubarak Ali, Zahir Khan, Naimuddin, Shahadat, and Shaheen Khanam were also found guilty of participating in the planned assault. The prosecution successfully argued that the family acted in concert with the intent to kill, rather than in a fit of sudden provocation.

This verdict has become a significant talking point in Rajasthan’s judicial circles, as it is the first time in Kota that a dozen members of one family have been simultaneously handed life terms. Legal experts noted that this follows another major ruling earlier this year where 10 individuals were sentenced to life for the murder of a police officer. The court’s decision underscores a zero-tolerance policy toward communal violence and neighborhood feuds that result in the loss of life over trivial grievances.
