Kolkata: The Kolkata Traffic Police have released an extensive travel advisory in preparation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s arrival in the city this weekend. The Prime Minister is scheduled to attend the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party government at the historic Brigade Parade Ground on Saturday. Kolkata Commissioner of Police Ajay Nand issued a notification on Friday detailing the necessary measures to ensure security and smooth transit during this high-profile event, which is expected to draw a massive crowd of supporters and national leaders.

Authorities will regulate vehicular movement across several critical arteries as deemed necessary by the traffic situation throughout the day. The affected stretches include the Esplanade Ramp, Kidderpore Road, Hospital Road, Lovers Lane, Casuarina Avenue, and Queensway. Additionally, the entry and operation of goods vehicles within the Kolkata Police jurisdiction will be strictly restricted from 4:00 AM until 8:00 PM on Saturday to minimize congestion near the venue. These measures are designed to facilitate the arrival of the Prime Minister and other dignitaries while maintaining public order.

To avoid disruptions to the city’s supply chain, the police have designated several exemptions to these restrictions. Transport vehicles carrying essential commodities such as LPG cylinders, CNG, petroleum products, medical oxygen, medicines, and perishable food items including vegetables, fruits, fish, and milk will be permitted to operate. These exemptions are intended to maintain vital public services and ensure that the city’s residents are not inconvenienced by the temporary logistical adjustments.

Strict parking prohibitions will also be enforced to facilitate security protocols and pedestrian movement around the Brigade Parade Ground. No parking will be allowed in the vicinity of the Victoria Memorial Hall or on stretches of AJC Bose Road between Hastings Crossing and Cathedral Road. Similar bans apply to Khidderpore Road, Hospital Road, Queensway, Casuarina Avenue, and several other lanes in the central district. Commuters and visitors are advised to plan their routes in advance and remain aware of potential delays throughout the central business district on Saturday.
