New Delhi: The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has officially summoned Meta’s global head of public policy following the removal of a high-profile Facebook video posted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sources confirmed on Tuesday that the federal government sought an immediate explanation after the social media giant took down the Prime Minister’s direct address to the nation’s youth regarding public examination integrity.

The controversial video had been originally posted on July 23 during widespread student demonstrations organized by the Cockroach Janta Party over examination paper leaks. In his message, the Prime Minister assured students that the administration was committed to implementing stringent legal and administrative measures to combat paper leaks and safeguard the integrity of competitive exams. The removal of such a high-level government address drew swift attention from federal authorities overseeing digital technology and telecommunications.

Responding to the development, a Meta spokesperson clarified that the video was taken down inadvertently due to an operational error. The company confirmed that the content has since been fully restored across its platforms, which include Facebook and Instagram. Despite the restoration and explanation, government officials have moved forward with the meeting to address content moderation protocols and prevent similar automated or human errors involving official state communications in the future.
