IndiGo Passengers Evacuated in Chandigarh After Power Bank Fire Aboard Stationary Aircraft

Chandigarh: An IndiGo flight travelling from Hyderabad to Chandigarh became the site of a swift emergency evacuation on Tuesday, May 5, after a passenger’s personal electronic device ignited shortly after landing. The incident involving flight 6E108 occurred while the aircraft was stationary on the tarmac, reportedly triggered by a portable power bank. While the sight of smoke in a cabin is enough to unsettle even the most seasoned traveller, the airline confirmed that no injuries were reported and the situation was handled with professional haste.

The cabin crew members, trained for precisely these high-heat scenarios, acted immediately to contain the fire and initiated a precautionary evacuation of all souls on board. Passengers were quickly moved from the aircraft to the safety of the terminal building, where they were assisted by ground staff. Though the evacuation was described as a standard safety protocol, it serves as a vivid reminder of why airlines are so meticulous about lithium-ion batteries and their potential to turn a routine arrival into a dramatic exit.

In an official statement, an IndiGo spokesperson emphasized that the safety of customers and crew remains the company’s highest priority. The airline has notified all relevant aviation authorities and the aircraft has been grounded temporarily to undergo thorough safety inspections before it is cleared to resume its scheduled operations. While a charred battery might be a small object, the response it triggered shows that in the world of aviation, there is no such thing as being too careful.
