Srinagar: In a major boost to connectivity for tourists and regular commuters, Indian Railways has approved the introduction of a third Vande Bharat Express train connecting Jammu and Srinagar. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh shared the development following official communication from Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, confirming that the new high-speed service will operate via Udhampur. The decision addresses long-standing public demand from the local population to include a key stopover at Udhampur.
The newly sanctioned service will run under train numbers 26407 and 26408 between Jammu Tawi and Srinagar, serving passengers through Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan Railway Station in Udhampur. This addition aims to ease travel times and improve overall regional mobility across the picturesque and crucial transport corridor connecting the Jammu plains to the Kashmir Valley.
Presently, two pairs of Vande Bharat trains are actively operating between Jammu and Srinagar to meet high passenger traffic. The launch of the third semi-high-speed train is expected to further enhance seating capacity, support local tourism, and provide an all-weather, efficient rail travel alternative along the route.
