Kathmandu: A bus carrying Indian pilgrims from the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu was attacked by protesters during the ongoing unrest in Nepal, leaving several passengers injured, eyewitnesses and the driver claimed on Thursday.

The incident occurred as the bus, reportedly carrying around 49 Indian nationals, was on its way towards the India-Nepal border. Protesters pelted stones at the vehicle, smashing windows and injuring passengers, including women and elderly travelers. Some accounts also suggest that belongings such as mobile phones and cash were snatched during the chaos.

Confusion remains over the exact site of the attack, with some reports placing it near Kathmandu and others closer to the Sonauli border crossing. The injured were later provided medical assistance, though the precise number of casualties is yet to be confirmed.

The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu is in touch with the Nepalese authorities and has assured all possible support to those affected. Officials said steps are being taken to ensure the safety of Indian nationals traveling in Nepal amid the ongoing protests.

The unrest, fueled by political deadlock and mass demonstrations, has disrupted daily life in several parts of Nepal. The attack on the bus has added to concerns about the security of foreign tourists and pilgrims visiting the country during this volatile period.
