Batala – Panic gripped the village of Mulianwal near Batala on Friday after a 50-year-old man, identified as Kulwant Singh, was shot dead in broad daylight.

According to family members and the village sarpanch, two unidentified youths entered Singh’s house around 11 a.m. and opened fire at him while his wife and daughter were present inside. The attackers fired at least five rounds before fleeing the scene.

Singh, critically injured, was rushed first to Batala Civil Hospital and later referred to Amritsar due to his deteriorating condition. However, doctors there declared him dead.

Locals said that Kulwant Singh earned a living by driving an e-rickshaw. He is survived by two sons — one currently living outside Batala and the other lodged in jail in connection with a case.

Soon after receiving information, police reached the spot and began an investigation. The assailants remain unidentified, and efforts are underway to trace them.
