New Delhi: The Embassy of India in Ukraine has said it is closely monitoring the situation after merchant vessel MV AGN Ragnar was struck while docked at the Port of Odesa on July 25. The mission is coordinating with local authorities to ascertain the condition of Indian nationals who were on board at the time of the incident.
According to an official statement issued by the Embassy, four Indian citizens were serving as crew members on the vessel. Two of them have been confirmed safe, while authorities are still gathering information regarding the remaining two sailors.
The Embassy stated that search and rescue efforts are currently underway and that it is maintaining continuous communication with the relevant Ukrainian authorities and agencies involved in the operation.
“Four Indian nationals were on board the vessel. As per the latest information, two have been confirmed safe, and information is awaited regarding the other two nationals. Search and rescue operations are underway. The Embassy is in constant touch with the concerned authorities,” the mission said in a post on social media.
While the circumstances surrounding the strike are still being assessed, Indian officials said they are keeping a close watch on developments and remain engaged with local authorities to ensure timely updates on the missing crew members.
The Ministry of External Affairs has not announced any further measures so far, but officials indicated that all necessary consular assistance will be extended to the affected Indian nationals and their families as more information becomes available.
The incident comes amid continuing security concerns in the Black Sea region, where commercial shipping operations have faced repeated disruptions due to the ongoing conflict. Indian diplomatic officials have assured that they will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as rescue operations progress.
