Rohtas, Bihar: At least five people were killed and 10 others injured after an uncontrolled container truck rammed into a stationary bus and a pickup vehicle in Bihar’s Rohtas district early Monday morning, officials said.
The accident took place around 3:30 am near Belwaiya Mathiya Mor on the Ara-Mohania National Highway under Dinara police station limits. According to police, the victims were returning to their village after attending a tilak ceremony and had halted near a turn when the speeding truck crashed into them.
The deceased have been identified as Ashok Kumar Singh (45), Pintu Kumar (35), Rameshwar Singh (38), Chhotu Kumar (20), and Ramvrat Singh (44), all residents of nearby villages.
Dinara SHO Dharmendra Prasad said the impact of the collision was severe, leading to multiple casualties on the spot, while several others sustained injuries. The injured were initially taken to the Dinara Primary Health Centre and later referred to Sasaram Sadar Hospital. Two critically injured persons have been shifted to Varanasi for advanced treatment.
The container truck has been seized, but its driver fled the scene and is currently absconding. Police have launched a search operation to trace him.
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary expressed grief over the incident and announced an ex gratia compensation of Rs 4 lakh each for the families of the deceased.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and later handed over to the victims’ families. Further investigation into the accident is underway.
