New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has upheld the conviction of Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav in seven distinct cheque bounce cases filed by M/s Murli Projects Private Limited. Modifying a previous lower court ruling, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma sentenced the actor to three months of simple imprisonment across all seven cases, directing that the prison terms run concurrently.

Alongside the custodial sentence, the high court has imposed a steep financial penalty of 1.05 crore rupees in each case. From the individual fines, the bench ordered that 1.0475 crore rupees be paid directly to the complainant company, while the remaining 25,000 rupees will go to the State. His wife, Radha Rajpal Yadav, was also ordered to pay more than 5 crore rupees in connection with the legal dispute.

The court noted that while Yadav has previously paid 2.25 crore rupees, that specific sum will be adjusted against the final liabilities owed to the complainant. In passing the verdict, the bench criticised the actor’s conduct, stating that he repeatedly breached formal undertakings and failed to clear his outstanding debts despite numerous opportunities, extensions, and judicial leniency. The operation of the verdict has been kept on hold for two months to give the actor a window to appeal the decision in a higher court.
