All medical colleges to be upgraded by end of this year : CM

SHIMLA: While presiding over the meeting of the Health Department here on Thursday evening, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has directed the officers to upgrade all the medical colleges of the state by the end of this year with modern medical equipments to provide better health care facilities to the patients within the state. He said that the state government had filled up thousands of posts in the Health Department to address the shortage of staff. He said that the state government was introducing cutting-edge technology in the health sector at par with AIIMS, New Delhi and the Government would provide full assistance to ensure effective and efficient delivery of services.

Sukhu said that three advanced testing labs in Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College Tanda, Dr. Radhakrishanan Government Medical College Hamirpur and AIMSS Chamiyana were being established and government had released a total amount of Rs. 75 crore. He said that PET scan machine was been established at IGMC, Shimla and procurement of PET scan machines for Tanda and Hamirpur medical colleges was underway. He said that process for filling up of 71 posts of various para medical categories and 50 posts of JOA (IT) was in the pipeline and additional 162 posts of para medical categories have been sanctioned.

The Chief Minister said that the students studying in medical colleges should have a conducive environment for academics and a small batch of 60 students shall be ensured for quality education. He said that the state government had sanctioned 5.76 crore for the construction of three lecture theatres and one examination hall at IGMC, Shimla and additional funds of Rs. 14.13 crore was been allocated for the construction of lecture theatre at Tanda Medical College. He said that construction of Critical Block at a cost of Rs. 23.75 crore and construction of additional Block with the budget of Rs. 42 crore was under process at AIMSS Chamiyana. He directed to expedite these work. He said that all the medical colleges across the state were being upgraded with modern infrastructure and world class technology.

Sukhu said that with the completion of these projects and availability of necessary manpower, better healthcare services would be made available for the people of the state close to their door steps.
