New Delhi: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval at Hyderabad House on Tuesday as part of his two-day official visit to India. The meeting marks the 24th round of the Special Representatives’ talks on the long-standing boundary issue between the two neighbours.

Wang, who arrived in New Delhi on Monday, had already held discussions with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, where both sides reviewed a wide spectrum of bilateral issues. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had earlier confirmed that the Chinese leader’s visit was at the invitation of NSA Doval.

According to official statements, the talks are expected to cover border management, trade and economic cooperation, river data sharing, connectivity, pilgrimages, and cultural exchanges. Sources indicated that Beijing has assured New Delhi it would address India’s concerns related to rare earths, fertilisers, and tunnel boring machinery—three critical sectors for India’s economy and infrastructure development.

On Monday, Jaishankar stressed that differences should not turn into disputes and that both sides must work to prevent competition from escalating into conflict. He underlined the importance of using Wang Yi’s visit as an opportunity to reassess bilateral ties and exchange views on broader global challenges.

The high-level diplomatic outreach comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to China later this month for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin on August 31–September 1.

India-China relations have faced turbulence since the 2020 border standoff in eastern Ladakh, which strained political and military ties. However, recent agreements on troop disengagement and patrolling along certain stretches of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) have created space for renewed dialogue. The latest round of talks between Wang Yi and Ajit Doval is being seen as another attempt to build on that progress.
