Bengaluru— A 26-year-old software engineer was allegedly drugged and robbed of gold ornaments and cash worth ₹6.89 lakh by a woman he had met through a dating app, police said on Tuesday.
According to officials, the victim befriended the woman around two months ago. After a brief period of chatting online, the two decided to meet at a restaurant in Indiranagar on November 1. The pair spent the evening together, during which they consumed alcohol. Later, the woman reportedly told him it was too late to return to her paying guest accommodation and requested him to book a hotel room for the night.
Once they checked into the hotel, the woman allegedly offered the victim a glass of water mixed with a sedative. Soon after drinking it, he lost consciousness. Taking advantage of the situation, the woman fled with his gold bracelet, gold chain, and cash, collectively valued at ₹6.89 lakh.
When the engineer regained consciousness hours later, he found both the woman and his valuables missing. He immediately filed a complaint at the Indiranagar police station.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for theft and cheating. Officials said the accused has been identified, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest her.
