Bihar Sees 67.14% Voter Turnout in Second Phase of Assembly Elections

Patna— Bihar witnessed a strong voter turnout of 67.14% during the second phase of the Assembly elections on Tuesday, as per the Election Commission of India. The enthusiasm among voters remained high across several districts, indicating continued public engagement in the state’s electoral process.

Kishanganj led the polling numbers with 76.26%, followed by Katihar at 75.23% and Purnia at 73.79%. Other districts such as Supaul (70.69%), Purvi Champaran (69.02%), and Banka (68.91%) also recorded strong participation. Meanwhile, Nawada registered a comparatively lower turnout of 57.11%, according to Election Commission data.

Several key constituencies also reported notable figures, including Supaul (69.72%), Sasaram (60.97%), Mohania (68.24%), Kutumba (62.17%), Gaya Town (58.43%), Chainpur (67.41%), Dhamdaha (74.20%), Harsiddhi (70.98%), and Jhanjharpur (57.73%).

This phase holds significant weight, as the electoral fate of 12 ministers from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s cabinet will be determined. Key candidates include Vijendra Yadav (Supaul), Lesi Singh (Dhamdaha), Jayant Kushwaha (Amarpur), Sumit Singh (Chakai), Mohammad Jama Khan (Chainpur), and Sheela Mandal (Phoolparas) from JD(U). On the BJP side, prominent ministers such as Prem Kumar (Gaya), Renu Devi (Bettiah), Vijay Kumar Mandal (Sikati), Nitish Mishra (Jhanjharpur), Neeraj Bablu (Chhatapur), and Krishnanandan Paswan (Harsiddhi) are contesting.

The first phase of polling earlier set a historic record for Bihar, with 65.08% voter participation—the highest in the state’s electoral history. The final vote counting is scheduled for November 14, which will determine the political direction of the state in the coming term.
