New Delhi: Customs authorities alongside Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel intercepted a Bangladeshi national attempting to smuggle gold valued at approximately 1.88 crore rupees at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. The traveller, who had landed from Jeddah and was scheduled to board a connecting flight onward to Dhaka, was stopped during a targeted security screening at Terminal 3 on September 12.

A physical examination led to the recovery of three oval capsules containing gold in chemical paste form, which the passenger had concealed within his undergarments. The gross weight of the seized packets, including packaging, amounted to 1,596 grams, yielding 1,346 grams of extracted gold. Following the initial detection by security staff, the individual was handed over to customs officers, who placed him under arrest and seized the contraband under provisions of the Customs Act.

During preliminary interrogation, the passenger admitted that he had been instructed to hand over the concealed consignment to an unidentified contact waiting inside the international transit lounge. Investigators have initiated follow-up procedures to track the broader trafficking network and identify the local recipients involved in coordinating deliveries through international transit hubs.
