Badrinath: A minor avalanche triggered from the snow-covered Kuber Bhandar peak hit the upper catchment area of the Kanchan Ganga river in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district early Sunday morning. The natural event occurred approximately two kilometres ahead of the highly revered Badrinath temple shrine. Local disaster management officials confirmed that the shifting snow mass remained confined to an isolated mountain valley, resulting in absolutely no loss of life or damage to public property.
The sliding glacial debris stopped several hundred metres short of the main transit corridors, ensuring that vehicular movement along the strategic Badrinath National Highway remained entirely undisturbed. Regional administrative authorities quicky characterized the event as a routine geographical process, noting that minor snow slides are common natural occurrences across the high-altitude Himalayan peaks during seasonal transitions. Local residents and temple pilgrims reported hearing a loud, rumbling sound echoing across the valley as the snow broke away from the peak, though daily routines at the shrine continued without a pause.
Chamoli District Magistrate Gaurav Kumar reassured the public that the regional landscape and tourist transit routes remain perfectly safe, with local life moving forward entirely unaffected. Kumar actively counselled citizens and visiting pilgrims to dismiss exaggerated accounts or panic-inducing videos circulating on various social media platforms, emphasizing the importance of relying solely on verified situational updates published by the district administration. Dedicated disaster response teams and local monitoring stations remain stationed throughout the sector to continuously observe the upper glacial fields and guarantee public safety.
