New Delhi: The Lok Sabha on Wednesday witnessed chaos soon after Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced three contentious Bills that provide for the removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, or Ministers facing arrest or detention on serious charges.

The Bills — The Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025, the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025 — were referred to a Joint Committee of Parliament amid loud protests from the Opposition.

The Joint Committee will have 21 members from the Lok Sabha and 10 members from the Rajya Sabha.

Opposition MPs tore and flung copies of the Bills, alleging they violated the Constitution and undermined parliamentary democracy. Despite the uproar, Speaker Om Birla accepted Shah’s proposal to send the Bills for further scrutiny.
