Chandigarh: On the second day of the ongoing Monsoon Session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha, Public Health Engineering Minister Ranbir Gangwa moved a privilege motion in the House against Congress MLA Jassi Petwar for using indecent language against the Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha. More than 15 members stood in support of the motion, following which it was admitted.
Ranbir Gangwa said that he had been observing the proceedings of the House for the past two years. He said that the Hon’ble Speaker had given equal time to both the treasury benches and the Opposition, and had in fact given more time to the Opposition than to the treasury benches.
He said that Congress MLA Jassi Petwar had publicly made defamatory allegations on social media against the Hon’ble Speaker of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha, accusing him of bias and prejudice in the discharge of his office. Serious allegations and adverse comments were made using insulting and objectionable language on social media.
Gangwa said that such conduct was inappropriate and affected the dignity and reputation of the Hon’ble Speaker. Terming the matter as one of breach of privilege and contempt of the House, he requested that it be referred to the Privileges Committee. The Speaker accepted the request and decided to refer the matter to the Privileges Committee.
