Navi Mumbai: Akasa Air has temporarily suspended its newly launched flight operations connecting Noida International Airport at Jewar and Navi Mumbai International Airport, less than a month after initiating services between the two greenfield facilities. The low-cost carrier confirmed that the operational halt is part of a routine schedule and network optimisation exercise. Flights on the affected sectors are scheduled to resume operations on October 1, 2026.
An official spokesperson for Akasa Air stated that the airline continuously reviews its domestic route network and aircraft deployment strategies based on seasonal trends, passenger demand, and overall operational efficiencies. The adjustment involves redirecting immediate capacity to established markets where demand remains stronger. While the daily non-stop service between Noida and Navi Mumbai was highly anticipated as a key link between emerging commercial hubs in the National Capital Region and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, the carrier chose to adjust its schedules after evaluating initial passenger load factors following the June launch.
Aviation industry sources noted that airlines operating out of the two recently inaugurated greenfield airports face early commercial hurdles as traffic patterns stabilize. Limited last-mile surface connectivity, incomplete public transit links like direct metro access, and high airport user charges have collectively influenced passenger preferences, leading to lower-than-expected initial passenger loads. Despite these short-term logistical challenges, airlines remain committed to long-term expansion at both Jewar and Navi Mumbai, acknowledging their massive future growth potential in easing congestion at older metropolitan hubs.
