Chamba: Two earthquakes struck different parts of Himachal Pradesh within less than an hour, sending tremors through Chamba and Kangra districts and causing concern among residents. Officials said there were no reports of casualties or structural damage following the seismic activity.
Data from the National Centre for Seismology showed that the first tremor, measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale, was recorded in Chamba at around 6:54 pm on Tuesday. The epicentre was located near Kareri, while the quake originated at a depth of approximately 5 km.
A second earthquake was detected in Kangra roughly 45 minutes later. Like the Chamba tremor, it was also recorded at a depth of around 5 km.
Because both earthquakes occurred relatively close to the surface, the shaking was felt distinctly in the affected areas. The sudden tremors caused panic in some localities, with residents reportedly stepping outside their homes as a precaution.
Authorities said they had not received information about any loss of life, injuries or damage to buildings and other property. Local administration and concerned agencies are keeping watch on the situation.
Both Chamba and Kangra are located in seismic zone V, placing them among areas classified as having a high risk of earthquake-related damage. The latest tremors have once again highlighted the region’s vulnerability to seismic activity.
