Shimla: One person was killed and four others were injured after a car veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge near Jogni under the Rampur Police Station limits in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla district on Friday, police said.
According to the police, five people were travelling in the vehicle when the accident occurred. The deceased has been identified as Peeki (40), a resident of Rampur, who was driving the car at the time of the incident.
The injured have been identified as Sarjan (36), Jyoti Prakash (37), Lalit (27) and Jai Prakash (29), all residents of Munish village in the Bahli area of Rampur subdivision.
All four injured persons were rushed to Khaneri Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
“One person died in the accident, while four others sustained injuries and are under treatment at Khaneri Hospital. Further investigation into the cause of the accident is underway,” Shimla Police said.
The exact circumstances leading to the accident are being investigated.
The latest mishap comes days after another fatal road accident in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district, where seven members of a family lost their lives after their vehicle plunged into a deep ravine on the Chamba-Masrund road.
Police and local residents had jointly carried out a rescue operation in that incident, recovering the bodies before shifting them to Chamba Hospital for post-mortem examination.
