Meham (Haryana): Tension gripped Haryana’s politically significant Meham constituency after unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire at the office of Congress Member of the Legislative Assembly Balram Dangi. According to law enforcement officials, the shooting occurred late Friday night, targeted the legislator’s office located on the main road in Meham town.
The investigative teams confirmed that four rounds were fired at the building. Two bullets shattered the glass of the main entrance door, while the remaining two became lodged within the aluminium door frame, causing notable damage to the property. The incident was discovered on Saturday morning, prompting immediate dispatch of police units from the Meham Police Station to secure the crime scene.
Authorities have launched a detailed criminal probe and are actively examining closed-circuit television footage from the surrounding commercial area to trace the movement of the suspects. Forensic teams also inspected the office premises to collect ballistics evidence and other crucial clues. Speaking to senior police officials during their site inspection, Dangi demanded a thorough and time-bound investigation to uncover the conspiracy behind the attack.
Meham holds deep historical and political weight in Haryana, having previously been represented by former Haryana Chief Minister Devi Lal and remaining a focus of state politics since the infamous Meham episode of 1990. The Dangi family has maintained a long political association with the region, as Balram Dangi’s father, Anand Singh Dangi, represented the assembly seat multiple times before the junior Dangi won the election. Police officials stated that multiple teams are working to ascertain the motive behind the attack, noting that no injuries were reported during the late-night firing.
