Chandigarh: The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is making sustained and result-oriented efforts to completely eradicate the social evil of child marriage from the state. Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr Baljit Kaur said the government has adopted a child-centric and sensitive approach to protect the rights and future of children.
Sharing details, Dr Baljit Kaur informed that during the financial year 2025–26, the state government has successfully intervened in 64 cases of child marriage, ensuring timely action to safeguard children. She appealed to the public to report any instance of child marriage immediately by contacting the nearest Child Marriage Prevention Officer or calling the Child Helpline 1098, so that prompt intervention can be carried out.
The Minister further said that to strengthen prevention at the grassroots level, 2,076 Child Marriage Prevention Officers have been appointed at district and block levels across Punjab. She added that details of these officers have been uploaded on the National Child Marriage Free Portal to ensure transparency and easy public access, reiterating the government’s commitment to making Punjab completely free from child marriage.
