CHANDIGARH: In a major boost to pilgrimage infrastructure, Harjot Singh Bains on Monday announced the establishment of India’s first permanent all-weather air-conditioned tent city for the ongoing Hola Mohalla celebrations at Sri Anandpur Sahib. Addressing a press conference at Punjab Bhawan, the minister said the facility was conceived after the success of last year’s temporary structure and a subsequent inspection by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. He described the initiative as a historic step for Punjab’s religious tourism, noting that the fully air-conditioned tent city will provide year-round accommodation to devotees, including beneficiaries of the Mukh Mantri Tirath Yatra Scheme.

Emphasising environmental sustainability, Bains announced that this year’s celebrations will be observed as “Green Hola Mohalla,” with a complete ban on single-use plastic. The Punjab Pollution Control Board will bear the cost of providing biodegradable alternatives at all langar sites, ensuring that plates, cups and utensils used during the large-scale community meals are eco-friendly. He said the move reflects the state government’s commitment to balancing spiritual festivities with environmental responsibility.

To ensure smooth celebrations, the Rupnagar district administration has set up 28 parking zones, two dedicated Trolley Cities and designated trolley streets for devotees arriving from across the state. Additionally, 100 e-rickshaw shuttle services will ferry pilgrims to key धार्मिक sites such as Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib and Qila Anandgarh Sahib. Enhanced health and security arrangements, including ambulances, Aam Aadmi Clinics, CCTV surveillance and large LED screens for live broadcasts, have also been put in place to facilitate a safe and seamless experience for the sangat.
