Punjab Government Committed to Promoting Horticulture and Enhancing Farmers’ Income
Chandigarh: Punjab Horticulture Minister Mr. Mohinder Bhagat has urged farmers across the state to adopt crop diversification and move towards high-value horticultural crops for better returns. He said that crop diversification is crucial not only for increasing farmers’ income but also for making horticulture more sustainable and remunerative.
Mr. Bhagat said that the cultivation of fruits, vegetables and flowers, mushroom production and the adoption of other high-value horticultural crops can create new and more profitable income opportunities for farmers. He said that farmers should move towards crop diversification while keeping in mind market demand, the potential of their soil, and local climatic conditions.
The Horticulture Minister said that the Punjab Government is promoting modern technology, efficient irrigation systems, protected cultivation, post-harvest management, cold-chain infrastructure and value addition to strengthen the horticulture sector. These initiatives are aimed at providing farmers with improved facilities and support from production to marketing.
He said that farmers can contact the nearest Horticulture Office in their respective districts to avail themselves of the benefits of various schemes being implemented by the Horticulture Department.
