Shimla: Governor Kavinder Gupta said that India’s education tradition has always been based on the harmonious integration of knowledge, values and character building. He said that the objective of education in India has never been limited to securing employment alone, but rather to the holistic development of an individual. He called upon the degree recipients to utilise their knowledge and talent not only for personal growth but also for the welfare of society and the nation.

The Governor was addressing the 9th Convocation Ceremony of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh at Dharamshala today as the Guest of Honour. While congratulating the gold medalists and degree recipients, he said it was a matter of pride that 32 students were awarded gold medals, including 23 meritorious girl students. This reflects the successful realization of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao”, as girls today were playing a leading role in education, research and innovation, thereby shaping a brighter future for the nation.

A total of 511 students were awarded degrees in various disciplines during the convocation ceremony.

Welcoming the Vice-President of India C.P. Radhakrishnan to Devbhoomi Himachal, the Governor said it was a matter of pride that the Vice-President attended the convocation ceremony of the Central University at Dharamshala. He said that a convocation ceremony is not merely an occasion for receiving degrees but marks the completion of an important phase of life and the beginning of new responsibilities.

“It does not signify the end of education, but rather the initiation of applying acquired knowledge towards fulfilling one’s duties to society and the nation,” he said. The achievement was not only a personal milestone for the graduates but also a reflection of their responsibilities towards society and the country.

Appreciating the efforts of the Central University in implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Governor said that the policy aims to make the education system more inclusive, multidisciplinary and skill-oriented. He commended the University for encouraging research and innovation besides effectively implementing skill-based courses and working towards achieving the objectives of the NEP.

Shri Gupta also congratulated the university for publishing 34 significant works on the Indian knowledge tradition and for translating books into languages listed in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution, particularly Punjabi and Dogri, thereby contributing to the preservation and promotion of Indian languages and culture. He also expressed happiness that the university had received autonomy from the University Grants Commission.

Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, MP Anurag Singh Thakur and Rajeev Bhardwaj, Chancellor Harmohinder Singh Bedi and Vice Chancellor Sat Prakash Bansal along with faculty members, students and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
