Ghaziabad: A car carrying two people fell nearly 50 feet from the Rajnagar flyover in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad early Monday after the driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, killing one passenger and injuring the other. The vehicle crashed through the flyover railing before plunging into the premises of a PWD office below.
According to police, the driver, Prince—aged in his mid-twenties—is currently undergoing treatment, while his father, 48-year-old Rakesh Kumar of Jagarati Vihar, died in the incident. Additional Commissioner of Police (Nandgram) Upasna Pandey said both occupants were trapped in the mangled vehicle and had to be rescued by police with the help of local residents.
They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where Rakesh Kumar was declared dead. His body has been sent for post-mortem. Police confirmed that Prince is out of danger.
The incident occurred around 3 am when Prince allegedly dozed off while driving at high speed.
The crash comes just a day after another major road accident in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj, where a speeding Mercedes hit three people near Ambience Mall before slamming into a roadside pole. One of the victims, 23-year-old Rohit Singh, died, while his two friends were injured. All three worked at a restaurant inside the mall.
Police arrested the driver, 29-year-old Shivam from Karol Bagh, who had borrowed the Mercedes to attend a wedding. Officers said he lost control of the vehicle due to a diversion, striking the pole at an auto stand where the victims were standing.
