New Delhi: Dense fog and poor visibility conditions disrupted flight operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Monday, leading to the cancellation of at least 128 flights, diversion of eight services and delays to nearly 200 others, officials said.
Airport authorities confirmed that 64 departing and 64 arriving flights were cancelled as visibility dropped sharply during the early hours. Eight flights were diverted to other destinations due to unsafe landing conditions caused by dense fog.
Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said runway visibility was gradually improving but cautioned that flight schedules could continue to be affected. In a post on social media platform X, the airport operator advised passengers to check with their respective airlines for updated flight information.
Data from flight-tracking website Flightradar24 showed that close to 200 flights were delayed, with the average departure delay estimated at around 24 minutes. Several airlines issued travel advisories, citing weather-related disruptions across north India.
Winter fog regularly affects flight operations in the national capital during December and January, often causing cascading delays and cancellations across the country’s aviation network.
