New Delhi: In a major enforcement action, the Delhi Police Crime Branch has dismantled an illegal LPG distribution network operating in outer parts of the national capital, leading to the seizure of 50 domestic gas cylinders and the arrest of two individuals.

The operation was carried out in the Rohini-Kanjhawla belt following specific inputs about unauthorised storage and refilling of cooking gas cylinders. Raids were conducted at multiple locations, including Sukhbir Nagar and Rama Vihar, where the alleged racket was being run.

The accused have been identified as Kunwar Pal (55) and his son Pankaj Pal (21), both residents of the area. According to officials, the seized stock included 29 filled and 21 empty Indane LPG cylinders. Authorities also confiscated a vehicle used for transportation and equipment such as a weighing scale employed in the illegal refilling process.

Investigators revealed that Kunwar Pal was associated with an authorised LPG distribution agency in Nangloi as a delivery worker. Instead of supplying cylinders to registered consumers, he allegedly diverted them for personal gain. The cylinders were reportedly stored at his residence and refilled using unauthorised methods before being sold at inflated prices in the open market.

Police officials said the illegal activity not only violated regulations under the Essential Commodities Act but also posed a significant safety hazard due to the risky handling of gas cylinders without proper safeguards.

A case has been registered under relevant legal provisions, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further investigation is ongoing to uncover the extent of the network and identify any additional individuals involved.

Authorities have indicated that more arrests may follow as they probe deeper into the supply chain and possible links to other illegal operators.
