New Delhi: The Cyber Police Station in Delhi’s North-East district has arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly posing as an employee of the Indira Gandhi International Airport and cheating a woman of more than Rs 3 lakh on the pretext of arranging a cabin crew job for her son.

The accused, identified as Rajeev Kumar, a resident of Mandawali, allegedly targeted job seekers through social media and collected money by promising employment at the airport.

Woman allegedly paid Rs 3.03 lakh for son’s job

According to police, the case came to light after Somvati, a resident of Shiv Vihar, approached the authorities alleging that she had been cheated of Rs 3,03,120.

She reportedly made the payments after Kumar allegedly assured her that he could arrange a cabin crew position for her 20-year-old son.

Following her complaint, police registered E-FIR No. 00061/2025 on December 3, 2025, at the Cyber Police Station, North-East district, under Sections 318(4), 319 and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Accused allegedly used Facebook to find victims

During the investigation, police traced Kumar and arrested him on August 6 from Madhu Vihar, where he was reportedly employed as a security guard at a Blinkit store.

Investigators said that during questioning, Kumar allegedly admitted to creating a false identity as an IGI Airport employee to make his job offers appear genuine.

Police said he used Facebook to approach people looking for employment and allegedly convinced them that he could facilitate airport jobs. Money was subsequently demanded under various pretexts, including recruitment formalities, security deposits and documentation charges.

Allegedly blocked victims after receiving money

Investigators further alleged that Kumar cut off contact with victims once the payments were received. According to police, he would block them on social media and remove Facebook conversations that could potentially be used against him.

Police also alleged that the accused destroyed the SIM card used while carrying out the fraud, apparently in an attempt to erase evidence and avoid being traced.

The money collected from the alleged fraud was reportedly used for personal expenses and to repay outstanding debts, investigators said.

The police are continuing their investigation to determine whether Kumar had cheated other job seekers using a similar modus operandi. Authorities are also examining his digital and financial transactions to establish the full extent of the alleged fraud.
