New Delhi: The results of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections 2026 were declared on Saturday, September 19, with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) securing three of the four key central panel posts. Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the Vice-President position.
ABVP’s Yash Dabas won the President’s post, defeating NSUI candidate Vijay Shankar Meena. Riya Chhawdi won the Secretary post for ABVP, while Lakshya Raj Singh secured the Joint Secretary position.
Shokeen emerged victorious in the Vice-President contest as an independent candidate. He had earlier been denied an NSUI ticket and contested the election independently.
Who won the DUSU 2026 elections?
The four central panel posts went to:
– President: Yash Dabas (ABVP)
– Vice-President: Deepanshu Shokeen (Independent)
– Secretary: Riya Chhawdi (ABVP)
– Joint Secretary: Lakshya Raj Singh (ABVP)
According to the final results, Yash Dabas polled 24,576 votes, while Vijay Meena received 22,523 votes in the presidential contest. Shokeen won the Vice-President post with 30,634 votes.
DUSU election 2026 voter turnout
Voting for the DUSU elections was held on September 18 across Delhi University. The election recorded a voter turnout of 40.46 per cent, with counting taking place on September 19 at the University Sports Stadium’s Multipurpose Hall in North Campus.
More than 1.51 lakh students were eligible to vote in the election. The 2026 turnout was higher than the previous year’s 39.5 per cent, according to election-related reports.
Deepanshu Shokeen wins as independent
One of the major talking points of this year’s DUSU election was Shokeen’s victory as an independent candidate.
Shokeen, who had sought an NSUI ticket, entered the contest independently after not receiving the party nomination. His campaign focused on student issues, including accommodation and other concerns faced by students.
His victory meant that ABVP did not secure all four central panel positions despite winning the President, Secretary and Joint Secretary posts.
