New Delhi— Gold prices in the national capital surged by Rs 2,850 on Tuesday, breaking the ₹1.3 lakh per 10 grams mark for the first time, driven by heavy festive buying ahead of Dhanteras.

According to the All India Sarafa Association, 99.9% pure gold jumped to a record ₹1,30,800 per 10 grams, inclusive of all taxes, up from ₹1,27,950 in the previous session. Meanwhile, 99.5% purity gold also rose by Rs 2,850 to touch ₹1,30,200 per 10 grams from ₹1,27,350.

Silver followed suit, rallying Rs 6,000 to a lifetime high of ₹1,85,000 per kilogram, marking its fifth straight day of gains. The white metal had closed at ₹1,79,000 per kg in the prior session.

Traders attributed the sharp rise in bullion prices to robust demand from jewellers and retailers in the lead-up to the festive and wedding season. Additionally, a weaker rupee, which slipped 12 paise to an all-time low of 88.80 against the US dollar, further supported the surge in precious metal rates.

Bullion experts suggest that the combination of seasonal demand and currency volatility could sustain elevated gold and silver prices in the coming days.
